April 10, 2006 06:52 - Sedona to Portland

Hello, Portland!

I have been on a roadtrip and spent the last couple of days in Sedona, Arizona. Throughout my travels I have enjoyed seeing the changing scenery, and driving through each town. Of course, I can't help comparing every place to Portland, and you know what? I still like Portland the best! The people in Portland are friendly, the service and food is great. Yes, I am biased (a little). Don't get me wrong--there are many wonderful cities to explore in our great country. Take Sedona, AZ for instance. I love Sedona and this is the second visit for me. The red rock country is spectacularly beautiful and there is a peace and quietness in the air that makes this place a destination for many for relaxation and spiritual exploration. I was taking a hike through Boynton Canyon yesterday with my dogs and a friend. When we returned to the car parked alongside the road, we found a note under the windshield wipers. It turns out a fellow Portlander saw my PDX license plates and happened to park right behind us and leave us a note! What a great coincidence--and we thought what a typically friendly Portland thing to do. Here is their note, below:

"Don't forget!! Pink Martini @ Crystal Ballroom Tues, Wed Thurs, Fri (sold-out), April 18, 19, 20, 21. Four different charities benefit!

XOXO, The Car Behind You"

I will continue my travels and enjoy the scenery in other towns across America. But I know when I come back to Portland I am coming home to my favorite city. Have a great day, Portland!

April 14, 2006 07:29 - One Man Star Wars Show, Portland

One Man Star Wars?---what?? This is what I was wondering when I got my ticketmaster "upcoming events" email newsletter. But yes, it's true. There is one man (Charles Ross) who performs the first three Star Wars movies in one hour, acting the characters all by himself. It sounds crazy, but if you're a Star Wars fan or just want to see some totally unique entertainment, you might check out his show in Portland. More...

"A one-hour, high energy, nonstop blast through the first three Star Wars films. The catch is, there's only one cast member. Charles Ross, the writer and solo performer, spent too much of his childhood in a galaxy far, far away- adulthood has been similar. Ross plays all the characters, recreates the effects, sings the music, flies the ships, and fights both sides of the battles.

Best known as the mastermind behind the infamous One Man Star Wars Trilogy and One Man Lord of the Rings, Charles Ross is a Canadian actor who has followed his heart and his career from one side of the continent to the other. Since first performing his One Man Star Wars Trilogy in Toronto, Ontario in January of 2001, Ross has brought countless audiences, both large and small, to their feet with his surprisingly unique shows.

Word of Ross's one of a kind talent has spread like wildfire with recent appearances on Craig Ferguson, The Today Show, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. His off-Broadway debut in August 2005 was a smashing success with critics raving about the incredible intensity that Charles brings to his work.

No matter the engagement, be it a rowdy night out with friends, a matinee with the family or a Sci-Fi conventions for the very dedicated, Charles Ross has entertained the masses with his high-energy and side-splitting romp through Middle Earth or a galaxy far, far away. "
