Arbor
Lodge is a great little nook of the city offering easy access to other quaint
Portland neighborhoods such as
Humboldt,
Alberta,
Piedmont,
Boise,
Eliot,
Kenton
and more. A trip to downtown Portland is a hop, skip and a jump (mere minutes)
by car, bus or train. Arbor Lodge immediately neighbors the Interstate Max line allowing for
a convenient commuting and general “getting around”. Major freeway ramps
located a few minutes from Arbor Lodge off of I-5.
Description
Arbor Lodge has really come into its own and is growing at a frenzied pace. The marked growth is the result of an
influx of new residents and homeowners over the last several years due to many
local area improvements such as the Interstate Max line introduced in 2004, a new Fred
Meyer (two-story mega store!) opened in 2004, as well as the hustle and bustle of dozens of new
shops and smaller developments. A huge bonus for the area came in 2005 as New Seasons Market
opened on the corner of Portland Blvd and
Interstate. The store has quickly become a neighborhood hot spot.
Homes
Arbor Lodge homes run the gamut of 20th century architecture, from classic Bungalow,
to Old Portland, to Cape Cod and more. A drive through the neighborhood reveals
quiet streets and modest homes. The home prices reflect marked growth in the
surrounding areas.
Like
many of the surrounding neighborhoods, Arbor Lodge is on an upward climb. The
area is restoration focused and community minded. If you enjoy the euro-urbanite
lifestyle of bicycling, walking and neighborhood owned coffee and grocery shops,
Arbor Lodge is a perfect fit for you. Just 5 minutes from downtown Portland and
convenient, easy access to other popular N and NE Portland hoods, Arbor Lodge is
a great place to hang your hat.
As
with the surrounding neighborhoods, Arbor Lodge's real estate values have
launched from “fixer-upper starter home” just a few years ago to “established”.
By some accounts, the homes have appreciated 80% or more in the last five years.
Area studies show that most homes sell in the $250,000-$350,000 range. To search for real estate listings in Arbor Lodge, visit the RMLS.

Eats
You’ll enjoy some
of the tastiest organic chocolate cake ever at the Albina Green Cafe. This teeny little café offers down-home, well prepared vittles
that won’t break the bank. Located at 5128 N. Albina Ave.
Literally attached to the Albina
Green Cafe is Big
City Produce: Big City is often applauded for their wide selection of fresh
and not so commonly found produce such as fresh cactus, daikon radishes, and
collard greens. Locals brag that Big City offers the best produce at the best
price. You surely won’t mind the small market homey feel either. This market
is located just a few blocks outside of Arbor Lodge, in Humbolt neighborhood at
5128 North Albina Ave.
Going
Out
An easy walk, bike or drive means locals often
hit the
Mississippi strip for entertainment-- this popular historic area is known
for cute and quirky shops, excellent restaurants and hip bars.
Fred
Meyer was leveled and rebuilt into a glorious mega-store (two levels with an
escalator and a Starbucks to boot!) opening in the later part of 2004. The locals
are overjoyed to have a spacious shopping center with ample parking. The new
Fred Meyer shopping area also brought in new development such as a new video
store and a few fast fooderies. Located right off the max line (7404 North
Interstate), Fred Meyer is a very convenient
shopping destination.
Area
locals enjoy Peninsula
Park & Rose Garden, the oldest rose park in the Pacific Northwest.
Enjoy
tennis, soccer, swimming, walking, smelling the roses and more. This park helped
to earn Portland
the
title of “City of Roses”.
Another excellent park and family favorite is Arbor
Lodge Park.
Coffee
The North
Star Coffee House is one of the areas quaintest and most lovingly run coffee
destinations. A turn of the century Bungalow converted into a warm and welcoming
local hangout, the North Star serves Stumptown Coffee and some of the best
pastries around. North Star is dedicated to supporting locally owned businesses
and artists, so be sure to check out the many locally crafted gifts including
jewelry, cards and soaps.
Why we love the North Star: Charming décor,
fireplace and wrap around deck, super friendly folks. Free wi-fi and being on the max line just makes
it better…At 7540 N Interstate Ave.
Focus
on…
New Seasons! This wonderful
little grocery speaks volumes about how special this neighborhood is. Locals had
the opening date scratched on their calendars and showed up in droves to support
the store's opening. New Seasons has brought 140 jobs to the immediate area and
a new sense of neighborhood pride. At 6400 N Interstate Ave., Portland,
OR 97217.
