Portland Blog: This Week in Portland March 8 - March 15 2014

90+ Portland restaurants, three courses, $29, what? It's Portland Dining Month, but let's be honest: Portland is an eating and drinking mecca any time of the year. One of my favorite things about living here is going out and meeting the people who work in our Portland restaurants, brewpubs, and coffee shops. I love meeting the chefs and all their supporting cast and crew, and hearing their stories on how they took a passion and a dream and turned it into a restaurant of their own. I am fortunate to live close to

It's really hard to find a bad restaurant in Portland because the bar has been raised so high. Even the food carts are renowned for cranking out unique and amazingly delicious food at affordable prices. Really, aren't we so lucky to have so many wonderful restaurants all around Portland? Of course it can get expensive if eating out becomes a frequent past time, but you're also supporting our local economy, and giving props to our proud Portland restaurants. And Portland Dining Month lets you do it for $29.

If you want to know where to eat, then check out one of the great Portland Food Blogs:

It's MARCH and FOOD MONTH is Upon Us!

by Rachel Carlson

FOOD.

I think it might be one of my most favorite topics to discuss. Good food, fancy food, fresh food, local food.

With March comes Spring but also too comes

Portland's Dining Month

Now then, many people from near and far have challenged me on how good cuisine in Portland REALLY is. Ahem, I'm a self-professed foodie after all. And my palate is bionic...I mean that ever so kindly. I don't make this up people. I taste things in food or drink that most don't taste. And trust me, sometimes that is not a 'good' thing. In fact, there is this test I've been wanting to take...it's called the 'supertaster' test.

Only 25% of the population are supertasters.

If I were to find out I was a supertaster I'd then want to be a food critic and write lovely articles about food. Okay, not really. It might be harder to enjoy the food and write about it too?

All that aside, I have lived in a great city with great cuisine and now I can admit that Portland is way ahead of the game. That which is not easy for me to admit. I still love you Austin, TX.

Now then since I don't have photos of fancy food to share for this article in honor of food month I instead am using photos that I shot in a cookbook collaboration that perhaps one day will be in a book. Perhaps I'll be a food photographer instead? I really do like photographing food as well as eating it.

What do you get for $29?

90+ restaurants in Portland will be serving up three tasty courses.

That's THREE course of amazing cuisine at some of the best Portland eateries for only:

$29

As such, a donation is made to the Oregon Food Bank if you make your reservation online. Visit Portland Dining Month reservations page.

Why yes, I did also get to eat the food during the photo shoot.

So then, because the news on Food Month has been teasing me for a few weeks now I finally narrowed the choice down to ONE. There were three (almost four) on the list. They always say to pick three to choose from? It's my favorite number after all.

I'm still crossing fingers that I'll be able to manage to treat myself to this.

It will be great research material for an article after all.

My dream three course meal would be at:

Mint/820

Portland's Eliot Neighborhood
816 North Russell, Portland, OR 97227

Mint is an American Bistro with influences from the Pacific North West, the Mediterranean and Latin America.

The three course meal here boasts the following:

So then, for those of you contemplating, here are the essentials:

Happy feasting. Happy weekend.

Cheers, Rachel
