Portland Homes for Sale by Portland Neighborhood

Northwest Portland and the West Hills Portland homes are typically in two categories: older classic Portland styles such as the grand Victorian in NW Nob Hill, to custom built modern designs built to take advantage of the views from the West Hills.  Nob Hill features many large old Portland homes built around the turn of the last century.  These homes are full of charm and features such as built-ins, hardwoods, and in some cases original stained glass windows and fixtures.  The yards tend to run on the smaller side, and you will likely be on a lot very close to your neighbors, but the NW Portland neighborhoods are some of the most popular in town due to the close proximity to both Downtown as well as Forest Park.

Southeast Portland homes were built over different time periods, expanding out from central Portland.  So, those neighborhoods closer-in have many Arts and Crafts Portland home styles, as well as what is known locally as the "Portland Four-Square", a popular traditional home with lots of room for family living.  Again, older Southeast Portland homes often have desirable characteristics such as hardwood floors, fireplaces, covered or wrap around porches, etc.  Because these neighborhoods tend to be more established, many feature larger trees.  For example, the popular Ladd's Addition neighborhood features a unique street layout with famous rose gardens and gorgeous classic Portland homes for sale.

Northeast Portland homes were built more recently than some neighborhoods close in, although neighborhoods such as Eliot and Irvington located close into town have some wonderful turn of the century Victorians, and Craftsman style homes.  More affordable home tracts were built up as the city grew, featuring more cape cods, cottages, tudor styles, and of course the classic bungalow.  Homes in many North and Northeast neighborhoods are smaller than their older cousins, so these neighborhoods can be more affordable than other areas of town.  Of course it depends on neighborhood and the size of the home, as well as condition.

Southwest Portland homes were generally built in the last century, and so there is a wide range of Portland home styles available.  Older homes are available in some neighborhoods, especially those closer to town.  You can find every possible Portland house style from ranches, to cottages, and even Victorians.  Southwest Portland neighborhoods offer a more suburban feel, so these areas are popular with families.

Central Portland features a wide range of condos, townhouses, and similar high density living. Visit our Portland Condos page to learn about the Portland neighborhoods with condos, and which might be a good fit for your lifestyle.
