There are Portland massage spas all over town; in fact there are hundreds of places you can go in Portland for a massage. So what makes one massage better than the next? Usually, it is combination of factors. The location and ambiance of the spa or massage studio is important. A quiet, serene setting is definitely more appealing to the overall relaxation experience. Soft sheets, dim lighting, a comfortable massage table, and a peaceful space will all contribute to a relaxing ambiance for you to relax.But, a nice spa setting alone does not make a great massage. I have had plenty of massages in top Portland spas that left a little something to be desired because the massage itself was only average. Most importantly, the skill of the Portland massage therapist will make or break your overall massage experience.
Don't hesitate to tell your therapist how you are feeling and what level of pressure you feel comfortable with. We've all had that massage where the whole time we are thinking "more pressure!" or "that tickles"! Personally, I like deep tissue work to get the kinks and knots out, but some people find that style is too painful. Simple communication and establishing a sense of trust with your therapist will ensure you are happy with your Portland massage experience.
The best massage therapists will establish good communication and will be intuitive in adapting the massage to fit what your body needs.
Consistency is also important.
