Portland St Patrick's Day Events - Just a little historySt Patrick's Day or Lá Fhéile
Pádraig is a holiday that falls on the 17th of March. It is
named after Saint Patrick (circa AD 387–461), one of the most
popular patron saints of Ireland. It began as a purely Catholic holiday
and became an official feast day in the early 17th century. While originally a secular holiday celebrated by Irish Catholic, St Patrick's Day is now celebrated in huge numbers across the world. St Paddy's is one of the busiest days of the years for bars and restaurants and is said to be one of the highest alcohol consumption days of the year. A Locals Tip- The Best Corned Beef and CabbageIf you want to prepare a feast to celebrate St Patrick's Day, we highly suggest picking up a corned beef (and cabbage) from local Portland meat market and grocer, Sheridan's. They prepare what most definitely is Portland's finest corned beef - all you have to do is cook it and bask in the glow of the compliments you'll receive. Sheridan Fruit - 409 S.E.
